Following on from our previous news article (see here) our Commercial Insurance team have received specific training on the effect of BT’s withdrawal of their REDCARE operations from the Michael Dunne of All About Security.

Michael explained that this is a problem associated with the ‘Digital Switchover’ in which the UK’s telecommunications providers are transitioning their telephone services from analogue lines to digital networks. The change means the landline will use the internet to make calls, rather than old copper network (known as PSTN, or public switched telephone network).

This isn’t something new! BT Openreach first announced that traditional copper-based telephony lines would be phased out in November 2017 and eventually deactivated by the end of December 2025. Most providers are aiming to complete the switchover by 2025.

Whilst there have been various articles written on BT’s withdrawal Michael stressed that the problem is therefore not just limited to BT Redcare!

If your intruder or fire alarm (or any other type of alarm/warning for that matter!) relies upon analogue lines you are also affected and need to act sooner rather than later. This also means that some Dualcom systems are affected as they may still be using analogue line as one of their forms of signalling!

If you are in any doubt ask your Alarm Installer now or speak to us.
