The celebration of Munro Greenhalgh’s centenary got off to a (double) top start! Over 50 darts players, supported by their friends and family shot it out on Friday at the first Charity Darts Competition, held at The Log Cabin, Greenmount Cricket Club. With throwers good, bad and ugly the group stages proved a little chaotic, but thanks to the Munro Greenhalgh scorers / administrators, the knockout stage was eventually reached.
Audience members made their feelings known with encouraging (sometimes not too PC) handwritten signs, and the stage was set for the quarter and semi finals.
Getting all the way to the final were Aaron Thomas and Matt Reeves. Despite being the best dart thrower by some distance, Aaron could not finish, and Matt pipped him at the post with a double three, at the first opportunity.
Matt Reeves was presented with the trophy, prosecco and ‘bully’ whilst Aaron got a set of darts and a T shirt for runners up. Aaron’s dad and mum, Dean & Becky, were actually voted the worst thrower on the night and received a personalised mug.
We raised approximately £1,000 for Bury Hospice and would like to thank: –
- Greenmount CC for hosting (and their kind donation),
- Our Board Sponsors Copyprint and Dragonfly Crowd
- The Vineyard for the £100 voucher for finishing a 100 with 2 or 3 darts.
- and finally everyone who turned up and supported the event
Watch this space for the next events in our centenary celebrations!
