Motor Insurance Database – issues with new Navigate system.

In April 2024 all intermediaries were updated that the the current Motor Insurance Database (MID) that is run by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) was upgrading their IT platform from the MID Portal to a new platform called Navigate on Monday 29 April 2024.

Since Navigate went live a problem has arisen in that Motor Trade, larger Motor Fleet policyholders and brokers who update vehicles have not been able to access records and update their vehicles. Additionally, many Insurers have also not been able to set up new MID accounts on Navigate or upload vehicle changes.

This is an industry wide issue that the Motor Insurers’ Bureau is working hard to resolve. The MIB have advised that the earliest this will be fixed, will be the middle of this week.

The MIB has a page on their website Navigate-updates to provide updates.

Does this affect the clients of Munro-Greenhalgh?

Unfortunately yes. It applies to clients with either a Motor Trade and larger Motor Fleet policies (10 vehicle or more) who have: –

  1. A new policy arranged after the 26 April 2024.
  2. An existing policy with vehicle changes made after 26 April 2024.

All vehicle data as at the 26th April 2024 has been uploaded into Navigate and is correctly shown.

For any vehicle alterations you have informed us of policy cover does apply. However, the police and ANPR (Automatic Vehicle Recognition Systems) cannot accurately validate whether a vehicle is insured. The MIB have advised the police that they should exercise caution on vehicle seizures for no insurance, due to the issues with the new system.

Our Recommendation:

We have been assured by our Insurer Partners that the issue will be resolved soon by the MIB. In the meantime we would suggest that you and your drivers/vehicle carry your Motor Certificate with them in case they are stopped by the Police.

The MIB police helpdesk has had additional resource added to address any queries from the police roadside.

If you are in any doubt please contact the office.
