In Memoriam: Remembering the Life and Legacy of Brian Greenhalgh

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of the founders of our business, Brian Greenhalgh, who peacefully departed from this world on 16 July 2023. He was 86 years of age.
Our roots go back to 1926 when J ‘Dougie’ Munro started the business. However, in 1969, Brian joined Dougie from Royal Insurance (what is now Royal & Sun Alliance) to form Munro-Greenhalgh, a venture that would eventually become a cornerstone of the Ramsbottom community.

With an unwavering commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction, he helped transform Munro-Greenhalgh into a resounding success, earning the respect and loyalty of countless clients and staff.
Some interesting facts our staff have recalled about Brian are: –
• During his time at Munro-Greenhalgh Brian took a year off in Germany to teach skiing.
• In his later years whilst at work he started to wear a wig. However, at one function he got fed up with it slipping. Typical Brian he simply decided to throw it off there and then!
• Although he had a reputation as a womaniser he was in fact a true gentleman, always courteous, respectful, and kind in his interactions with others. After he left many of our client’s female staff would always ask after Brian!
• Brian was infamous for his little black book of contacts. If lost he would always say “It’s worth thousands to him”.
• He smoked liked a trooper.
Brian eventually retired from the business in 1980 but always kept in touch sharing his exploits, including being a chaperone on cruise ships and his love of dancing.
Beyond the realm of business, Brian Greenhalgh was a cherished friend and a devoted family member. Many will fondly remember his warm smile, compassionate nature, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Rest in peace.
