We are proud to announce that Munro-Greenhalgh’s charity partner for 2019 will be Bury Hospice. The hospice provides palliative care for people with terminal illness in our local community. The facility requires substantial funding to maintain the levels of service they provide, but has been forced to operate at half capacity since its opening due to insufficient funds.

The hospice has access to 12 beds by they have struggled to keep more than 6 available. This means that people who require access to first class, end-of-life care are subjected to inferior alternatives. Members of our team have experienced the care the staff at the hospice provide during a family member’s illness. The emotional strain during this stage of a terminal illness is eased by the staff on hand at the hospice, as well as knowing that the care provided eases pain, provides emotional support and ensures comfort. All people of Bury who require palliative treatment should have access to the same levels of service.

Our opening event is the inaugural “Tour de Ramsbottom” to Lloyd’s of London and back. This will be done on a static exercise bike in the shop window at our offices for the week commencing the 28th January 2019. Before you think we’ve over-indulged on Christmas wine, we realise that a stationary bike cannot actually travel “to” anywhere, so, we’re proposing to use our team of staff, volunteers, dignitaries, passers by, Ramsbottom elite, waifs and strays to contribute until we clock up the distance from here to Lloyd’s of London and back. Simple. Our target mileage will be 350 miles (as the crow flies).

How can you help?

We are dividing the distance across the 5 days, broken down into 40 one hour slots and are looking for 40 businesses to make a minimum donation of £50 to sponsor an hour of the cycle. In return the donors will be featured on our tv monitor displayed in our office window for the duration of the event. Each sponsor will also be featured on our social media pages  and in the local press.

This is the first such event that we have organised and we do hope that you are able to support our efforts. If you would like to donate for an hour sponsorship please let us know as soon as possible. Alternatively a simple donation would greatly be appreciated.

Our local MP, James Frith, kicks off proceedings putting some miles on his legs. He will be well versed with the journey down south to our nation’s capital, so a hefty contribution is expected! Our Mayor has also agreed to help – we have promised her our support with re-election if she can gives us 20 miles. Hopefully we may also attract a few other VIPs. However, cycling isn’t confined to VIPs alone. We’re welcoming customers and members of the local community to pop in, dust off the Christmas cobwebs and make a dent in our required total miles.
